To safely jump start your car battery ( Battery Jump start ), follow the simple steps below:

  1. You want to make sure you have a good set of jumper cables:

You never know when you will be in need of jumper cables. Buying a good pair of jumper cables and keeping them in your car is a good idea. In the worst case scenario try to find someone who is willing to lend you their own set.

  2. Ensure all vehicles involved are parked:

Please make sure both vehicles are parked and facing each other (assuming both batteries are located under the front hood of the car, some automobiles such as BMWs the battery is located in the trunk).

  3. Resume to open the hood and connect the cables:

Attach the red cable to your battery (attach it to the positive side) You will know which side is positive because it will be red or have a “+” on it. Attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the other car.

  4. Attach the black cable to the negative side of the battery:

You will recognize the black side/ negative side because it will be black or have a ” – ” on it.

  5. Attach the last black clip:

Attach the black to your own negative side or an unpainted metal surface on your car that isn’t near the battery( you can use one of the metal struts that is used to hold the hood open)

The cables should look like this.

    Jump start battery auto

  6. Resume to start the vehicle that has the good battery:

Keep the car running for a few minutes to allow sufficient energy to be transferred.

  7. Finally, try to start your own vehicle:

Give it a shot! When your car does get on, leave the engine running for atlas 10-20minutes. Don’t worry if it doesn’t work just make sure your cables are placed properly. If the car still does not start your battery might be at the point of no return. At this point please give someone a call for assistance.
